For Medical Professionals
At the Department of Neurosurgery, Kyoto University, we uphold the principle of “For the Patient”, delivering the most advanced surgical treatments for challenging neurological disorders—always with thorough informed consent.
Our department has achieved notable results by providing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that go beyond the standards covered by national health insurance. Specifically, these include the following:
- Surgical treatment for moyamoya disease, a designated intractable disease characterized by occlusion of the circle of Willis
- Endovascular neurosurgery, including embolization, angioplasty, vascular reconstruction, stent placement, and the use of flow diverters for cerebral aneurysm treatment
- Novel combined chemoradiotherapy for malignant brain tumors, along with assessment of anticancer drug sensitivity based on genetic profiling
- Preoperative functional brain mapping using magnetoencephalography (MEG)
- Identification of epileptic foci and functional brain mapping using subdural electrode implantation
- Awake craniotomy for brain tumor resection and epilepsy focus removal
- Functional brain imaging using high-field MRI systems
- Brain tumor surgery using intraoperative 3T MRI
- Endonasal transsphenoidal pituitary surgery using mobile CT imaging
